Barielle Summer Brights COMPARISONS

When Barielle released their Summer Brights collection, there were many who speculated that these were newly named past polishes. Additionally, I received a few emails about a comparison post to show the differences between these polishes and past collections. Below you will find comparisons between Barielle polishes except for Blue Capri, which I had no comparable Barielle polish.

To see the original swatches of the Summer Brights collection check out this post.

Sweet Addiction vs. Central Park (New York Style Collection)
L-R: Sweet Addition, Central Park, Sweet Addiction, Central Park
The similarities: Both are dusty, creme greens with a touch of blue, they were both easy to apply and very pigmented
The differences: Central Park is darker

Lemon Drops vs. Banana Drop vs. Sunshine
L-R: Sunshine, Banana Drop, Lemon Drops
The similarities: Well, they're all yellow...
The differences: Sunshine is a cool-toned bright yellow with shimmer, Banana Drops is a pastel creme, and Lemon Drops is a bright yelllow with a touch of warmth. Lemon Drops is the friendliest to apply (although, none of these are exceedingly difficult).

Pink Flip-Flops vs. Allie's Lace Cover Up vs. Pink Quartz
L-R: Pink Quartz, Allie's Lace Cover Up, Pink Flip-Flops
The similarities: They're all creme pinks.
The differences: Pink Quartz has a touch of orange, Allie's Lace Cover Up leans lavender, and Pink Flip-Flops has a distinct brightness reminiscent of Barbie. Allie's Lace Cover Up and Pink Flip-Flops are definitely more cool-toned than Pink Quartz. Choosing between these is a matter of preference and skin-tone.

Cosmic Kiss vs. Eli's Magic vs. Life of the Party
L-R: Life of the Party, Eli's Magic, Cosmic Kiss
The similarities: They all qualify as pigmented, easy to apply, bright pink, creme polishes.
The differences: Eli's Magic is what I would call a true bright pink. It's probably the color most think of when they think of a neutral hot pink. Life of the Party is still very vibrant but it has more coral (warm) undertones. Cosmic Kiss is the coolest of the three.

The only comparison that is not exclusively Barielle, Blue Capri vs. essie Butler Please
The similarities: Both are an on-trend bright, electric periwinkle blue. They both have a glossy creme finish.
The differences: Blue Capri is dustier and a touch darker than Butler Please. Blue Capri is a touch thicker and more pigmented, making application faster and easier.

The Verdict:
There are no duplicate polishes here! However, it is not completely necessary to own ALL of these. It's a matter of deciding which ones fit your skin-tone best.  Everyone has their own preferences so pick whichever one works best for you. Some do have better formulation than others making for easier application. If I HAD to pick I would choose: Central Park, Banana Drop (but maybe Lemon Drop), Allie's Lace Cover Up, Life of the Party, and Blue Capri.

Pink Girly Glitter

Hello, loves!  Many of you are aware of my glitter frustrations which include but are not limited to...

  • Makes me feel like a little kid (which can be good)
  • Pain in the butt to remove
  • Messy removal (aka. glitter EVERYWHERE)

Therefore, this girl usually doesn't include glitter in many of her manicures.  I do own quite a few glitters, despite not using them often.  I also have not gotten on the indie glitter bandwagon (which just seems a bit oxymoronic) because I do not wear it often even if I like to look at it in the bottle:)

However, I do wear glitter, on occasion and I welcome suggestions of classy ways to wear glitter.  I have "mastered" wearing glittery accent nails and decided to get adventurous and do an all over glitter manicure.  I used 2 Barielle beauties to complete this look.  The base color is two coats of Barielle Pink Quartz and is topped with two coats of Barielle Cherry Blossom Sparkler.
My nails looked like they were painted with molten pink metal from afar.  It was pretty cool.  I have gotten more adventurous with nail polish (I used to be a sheer pink & red wearer, boring to most of you, I know).  With the recent discovery of peel-able basecoats (aka. Elmer's School Glue) you might see me wearing more glitter & flakies:)

What is your FAVORITE way to wear glitter?

Valentine's Day Nails #4

Welcome to Valentine's Day inspired manicure week!

I will showcase my favorite valentine's day polishes, nail art, etc.

Valentine's Day Nails #4

Valentine's Day manicure #4's inspiration is...
Art Deco
Today we have a manicure inspired by a vintage design.  Art deco inspired EVERYTHING can be found everywhere.  This re-popularized style which consists of brights, metallics, and geometrics ranges from simple to opulent.  It's beautiful & fun!

I created this beautiful manicure using Barielle Pink Quartz as a base.  For the design I used Barielle Gold Digger and Sinful Colors Ruby Ruby.

You can purchase Barielle Nail polish from their website for $8 each. And Sinful Colors Nail Polishes can be found at many drug stores/pharmacies, including Walgreens and Rite Aid.

Barielle Gem Stone Earth Collection

The latest collection by Barielle is the Gem Stone Earth collection.  It is made up of 5 beautiful earthy hues.  This collection features creams, metallics, and even a touch of sparkle.  They are perfect for any season and overall are very versatile, neutral colors.

Let's take a look at these beauties...

Pink Quartz is described as "opaque baby pink." This cream finish polish is my perfect pink.  I have been searching for a creamy pink just like this.  Pink Quartz is not milky, streaky, or orangy which makes it that girly pink perfection.  This Barbie-esque pink was opaque in 2 thin coats.  Pink Quartz was the easiest of the bunch to apply.

Granite Glitter is said to be a "metallic silver marble." Although the name contains the word glitter, there is no noticeable glitter or flecks in this polish.  This smooth metallic polish was opaque in 2 thin coats.  The formula of this polish was thinner, but not runny.  Granite Glitter is the perfect cool grey with minimal brush stroke visibility.  It is smoky yet it has a glowing quality at the same time.

Amber Sparkler is called a "metallic bronze w/ silver swirl."  This frosty metallic is rightly called amber.  This color is beautiful and takes on an almost rose gold tone.  Initially I was worried that this would not be flattering against my skintone, and was I wrong or what!  Although this is my favorite color of the bunch, I do wish that it was not as frosted (with visible brush strokes).  I would LOVE to have this color as a foil or a glitter!  This was 2 coats.

Back to Nature is deliciously named a "creamy cappuccino."  It actually seems like a light terracotta nude to me. It looks a tad orangey against my uber pale skintone.  It was opaque in 2 coats and was not milky or streaky.

Green Opal is best defined as a "metallic olive marble."  This golden olive metallic is not as smooth (not as in texture, this one has somewhat larger metallic particles) or frosty as Granite Glitter or Amber Sparkler.  Green Opal actually contains extremely fine flecks which flash a multitude of colors from gold and green to blue and red.  This is the most stunning polish of this collection.  It's gorgeous & I could not get a picture that does this beauty justice.

The Verdict:
Although these aren't the most unique polishes in the wide world of polish, they are all great staples to have in your collection.  I love how wearable these shades are.  My favorites in this collection are Pink Quartz and Green Opal because I do not have any other colors like them.  Granite Glitter & Amber Sparkler were tricky for me to apply, but were still beautiful.  And Back to Nature was a touch too warm for my complexion.  I think it will be more flattering on me in the summer.

This collection can be found at the Barielle website and retails for $25.00.  You can also purchase the polishes individually for $8.00.
